Pictures and links for a day hike along the Petrified Sand Dunes Loop in St. George, UT

Overview

Todays hike was my birthday hike! 4.3 miles about 4 hours. Weather was warm and dry without a cloud in the sky. The geology was amazing. Here there are three completely different geological areas mashing together; The northern part of the Mojave desert, the southern part of the Great Basin desert; and the western edge of the Colorado Plateau. Overlaying the land are rivers of ancient volcanic lava flows This combination made for amazing landscapes, and plant life. Enjoy the pictures!
